Balkan Sevdah ("sevdah" means "love") was formed in Warsaw in 2004. The same year the band won main price at "Mikołajki Folkowe Festival" – the oldest, and one of the biggest folk music festivals in Poland. Since 2004 they have made about 600 stage performances both in Poland and abroad, including the Balkan Pennisula.
Their music comes from various folk cultures from the Balkan Pennisula (i.e., Bosnia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Turkey, Serbia, and Kosovo). The moody sevdalinke - love songs from Bosnia - and the spontaneous and energetic Gipsy pieces from Serbia or Macedonia meet their repertoire. Between those extremes lies Pirin - the heart of their music. Filled with unique harmonies and assonances, Pirin songs remain group's unfading source of inspiration.
