"Kożuch", Polish for not only “Sheepskin Coat” but also “Skin” - such as on custard or hot chocolate, was formed in 2011.
They play traditional music from the heart of Poland - the area around Łódź, which boasts many musically varied regions: Łęczyca, Łowicz, Opoczno, Ruda and Sieradz. Band's guides in musical wanderings have been, above all, violinist Tadeusz Kubiak from Łęczyca and accordionist Sławomir Czekalski from Łowicz. Archival recordings have also been an inspiration.
They combine their learning from rural masters with sensitivity, spontaneity and energy. That’s why, as modern people, they think that they play traditional music how it would have been played if it had not lost its continuity of transmission from generation to generation.
For years musicians have been collaborating with the "All the World’s Mazurkas Festival", where in 2012 they came second in the Old Tradition contest. That same year Kozuch received a prize in the reconstructed folklore category at the Festival of Folk Groups and Singers in Kazimierz. They have twice played the "Colours of Poland" festival and also performed at the “Kody” festival in Lublin, Cracow's "Rozstaje" festival, and Polish Radio’s “New Tradition” Folk Festival, where band won the Grand Prix in 2016. Kożuch also performed in Estonia, the Czech Republic and Russia.
