Lelek - a Polish folk music group, which in its work and name refers to the pantheon of the Slavic gods and the culture of the pra-Slavs. It was founded in May 2015 by Maciej Szajkowski, a drummer from Warsaw Village Band and R.U.T.A. The band's name comes from folk beliefs, according to which the nightjars (Caprimulgus europaeus) suckled the goats's udders, causing the goats to cease to give milk.
The diversity of the musical backgrounds of the members of Lelek ensemble, combined with the unique subject, guarantees a remarkable experience for the audience. The whole impression is complemented by original instruments, which the band uses while playing its music. It includes analogue Moogs and Hammond synthesizers, traditional Polish membranophones and chordophones (Płock fiddle, hurdy-gurdy,) Middle Eastern lute and ethnic percussion from three continents. The members of Lelek formation are experienced musicans. They have been performing in such well-known Polish groups as (above mentioned) Warsaw Village Band, R.U.T.A., Power Of Trinity, Orkiestra Na Zdrowie and Vavamuffin. Summing up, it’s a supergroup, reinterpreting the most interesting poems and songs referring to the pre-Christian Slavic heritage.
