It is a band that was founded around 2004 by Henryk Czekała "Szkot", the leader of the well known Polish bluegrass and shanty group Mechanicy Shanty, and even earlier co-founder of another legend of the Polish sea folk scene, Roaring Twenties (Ryczące Dwudziestki). Since 2014, the composition of the trio has been based on musicians from the hometown of leader – from Bytom.
The concert program, consist of old folk songs based on American or Irish sources, as well as contemporary sailing songs, written by both Czekała and other recognized Polish sea songs authors. Of course, the program also includes shanties – sailor songs of old decks.
Only at Szkocka Trupa performances you can hear the hits of the sailing scene like "Spanish girls", "Molly Malone", "Hills of Wales" , "Roaring to Old Maui" or shanties "Six Mud Feet", "Emma", "Johnson's Girls" – but in new arrangements, interpreted differently, sung and played differently and... translated into Polish. It is very interesting for foreign audience.
Thanks to the open, musical formula and diverse repertoire, trio concerts are interesting
and surprising. Leader has very good contact with the audience, reacts to the emotions that accompany her, can draw her to fun and singing together. Bluegrass, blues, country or folk versions of famous sea songs are the showcase of this formation. The band has not released any album yet, but it is in the nearest future.
Each of members brings to the Szkocka Trupa (Scottish Troupe) a part of themselves, their experiences, sensibilities and skills acquired from many years of activity on the sailing scene, together creating a nice mix of styles, but above all having fun together with the audience.
