Żywiołak ("Elemental") was formed in early 2005, initially as a musical duet: Robert Jaworski (a former member of the bands like ich troLe and Warsaw Village Band) and Robert Wasilewski (the co-founder and guitarist of Open Folk).

Almost all of 2005 saw a laborious collaboration between these two musicians, who were later joined by two female vocalists, Anna Piotrowska from the group Goście z Nizin and Izabela Byra from Detonacja, as well as an ethnic percussion specialist, Maciej Łabudzki, who was later replaced by Maciej Dymek.

The band made its debut recording EP “The Music of Psychedelic Świteziankia” and shortly thereafter LP “New Ex-Tradition”. In 2011, for the new concept-album “Global Village” in the band appeared two new singers: Monika Wierzbicka (Nina Nu) and Karina Kumorek (Kara). The band played with this line-up until the summer of 2013. Then, the existing roads diverged musicians. Robert Wasilewski – one of the founders of the band assumed Warszał project. In 2014, team founder Robert Jaworski appointed new musical composition referring to the early achievements of the team.

The name Żywiołak ("Elemental") explicitly defines energy of our music… "Żywiolak" is the creation of our Slavic imagination, the music of elements… This innovative folk music, bursting with almost punk energy, is made using reconstructed old and contemporary acoustic instruments, with a mix of archaic and contemporary vocal techniques. Strongly inspired by experimental and nordic music, the band plays “modern archaic” folk.

Their latest collection of tunes hails from Poland’s Baltic coast and is based on the book "Pomerania", written by the 19th century Polish ethnographer – Oskar Kolberg. The new album with this material "Pieśni Północy" /("The Mid/North Songs") was released in September 2017.

The leader of the group, Robert Jaworski, takes part in many musical projects (De Lira Company, Loopus Duo) not only the folk ones.
