Młode Djembe ("Young Djembe") was established in April 2007 by choosing best players attending drumming workshops run by Agnieszka Kołczewska (musician, percussionist, manager).
The band plays rhythms using various types of drums - mainly djembe, conga, darabuka, bongos and percussion instruments like maracas, guiro, cabasa, chimes, cymbals, cowbell, vibraslap, triangle, African whistle. Along with drumming, band also sings, mainly ritual African songs.
The djembe - African drum - is the leading instrument in the band. Although, the group is inspired by percussion and drum music coming from Africa, Asia, Cuba and Brazil, they do not exclude rock, jazz, reggae or folk music (Armando Peraza, Alex Aqunia, Nippy Noya, Dudu Tutzi, Guema, Zaka, Salif Keita, Zakir Hussein, Trilok Gurtu are just some of great musicians who give them inspiration). Musicians playing in Młode Djembe have many inspirations, ideas and passion, which help them to arrange songs in their own creative way.
Młode Djembe released their first album called "Demo-Rytmy" in June 2011. It included their own arrangements of rhythms, including Tumbao, Nanigo, Yeruba, Voo Doo or AveYa.
The band has already performed more than 100 concerts, including playing on main folk festivals in Poland ("Czeremcha" and "Mikołajki Folkowe"), the Night of Culture in Lublin, "Night with Africa" and many more. They are also the co-organizer of the Festiwal Artystycznych Warsztatów Umiejętności, which already had 7 editions - it is hold in every November since 2007 at the UMCS "Chatka Żaka" Academic Cultural Center in Lublin.
On May 13th 2017, Młode Djembe received the President of Lublin Jubilee Award for the 10th anniversary of the existence and their overall activity.
