They come from Szczecin, Poland. In their artistic work group promotes the authenticity of style – searching for new trends therefore most of their works are original compositions. They draw their musical inspiration from traditional folk sounds of the broadly defined Orient – from the Balkans, through Israel, Kurdistan, Belarus to India.
Dikanda was founded in 1997 in Szczecin and plays the world music. Most of the music tracks are the original compositions, inspired by traditional folk sounds of Balkan, Iranian, Jewish, African, Highland, Indian, Carpathian or Roma music – in the simple way, the whole beautiful music of the world.
Their works are dominated by the Balkan and Gypsy influences. The band has been playing since 1997 and has recorded 7 albums so far, including a Live DVD recorded in the Witkacy Theatre in Zakopane. They have performed hundreds of concerts, mostly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland but also in Russia, India and the USA. They have won numerous awards – among others in 2005 their album "Ushtijo" was awarded "The Disc of the Year" by a German magazine "Folker". DIKANDA's concerts are extremely emotional journeys through ethnic sounds, zestful meetings full of charisma, energy and true feelings. What sets DIKANDA apart is creating new words in their lyrics, thus forming their genuine language - "dikandish". The most important element of their artistic work is the message – a special relation between the musicians and the audience.
The most valuable projects of the formation are the work with Noah's Ark band (popular children's music group in Poland) or with foreign artists, such as Sumi Sumi (Israel) and the band from France - called Princes Chemeaux. Dikanda has done important music projects in Hungary and France with Miquèu Montanaro, famous French writer and composer, the founder of La Compagnie Montanaro.
On the occasion of their jubilee, the artists prepared their first video for the song titled "Miłość" ("Love"). This track comes from a new album “Devla Devla” which has been created specially for the 20th anniversary of the Dikanda band. The release of the full album is scheduled for the first half of November this year. Parallel to this date, Dikanda has planned a monthly concert tour in Poland and Europe.
